The five acts, and the fragrance / ஐந்து செயல்கள், மற்றும் மணம்

After beholding the Lord as fire and moonlight, the saint now beholds His cosmic work: He creates, He preserves, He dissolves, He bestows grace — and He draws the devotee into His service. And He is like fragrance: invisible, yet everywhere; far, yet near.

நெருப்பும் நிலவுமான இறைவனைக் கண்ட பின், ஞானி இப்போது அவனது அண்டச் செயலைக் காண்கிறார்: அவன் படைக்கிறான், காக்கிறான், அழிக்கிறான், அருள் தருகிறான் — அடியவனைத் தன் தொண்டில் சேர்க்கிறான். அவன் மணம் போன்றவன்: கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியாதவன், ஆனால் எங்கும் நிறைந்தவன்; தொலைவானவன், ஆனால் அருகானவன்.

The meaning in plain words

“You who have no beginning, middle, or end! You create all the worlds, you preserve them, you dissolve them, and you bestow grace. You drive away my sins and draw me into your service. Like fragrance — invisible yet everywhere — you are both the far-distant one and the near one. O mysterious One who stands beyond speech and thought!”

This verse holds the five cosmic acts — creation, preservation, dissolution, grace, and the drawing-in of the soul — in a single breath. And then it gives us one of the loveliest images in the whole hymn: God as fragrance. You cannot see fragrance, you cannot hold it — yet it fills the room. So He is: seyai (far) and naniyane (near) at once, beyond what words can say or mind can grasp.

எளிய சொற்களில் பொருள்

“தொடக்கம் இடை முடிவு இல்லாதவனே! அனைத்து உலகங்களையும் படைப்பவனே, காப்பவனே, அழிப்பவனே, அருள் தருபவனே! என் பாவங்களைப் போக்கி என்னை உன் தொண்டில் சேர்ப்பவனே! மணம் போல — கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியாமல் எங்கும் நிறைந்து — தொலைவானவனும் அருகானவனும் ஆனவனே! சொல்லுக்கும் மனத்துக்கும் எட்டாமல் நிற்கும் மறையோனே!”

இந்தப் பாடல் ஐந்து அண்டச் செயல்களையும் — படைத்தல், காத்தல், அழித்தல், அருளல், ஆன்மாவை ஈர்த்தல் — ஒரே மூச்சில் கொண்டுள்ளது. பிறகு முழுப் பாடலிலும் மிக அழகிய உவமைகளில் ஒன்றைத் தருகிறது: மணமாக இறைவன். மணத்தைக் காண முடியாது, பிடிக்க முடியாது — ஆனால் அது அறையை நிறைக்கிறது. அப்படித்தான் அவன்: சேயாய் (தொலைவு), நணியானே (அருகு) — சொல்லாலும் மனத்தாலும் எட்ட முடியாதவன்.

To carry with you / உடன் எடுத்துச் செல்ல

Today, notice one thing you cannot see but know is there — the scent of rain, of flowers, of morning coffee — and remember: that is how He is with you. Far as the stars, near as your breath.

இன்று கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியாமல் இருந்தும் இருப்பதை உணரும் ஒன்றைக் கவனியுங்கள் — மழையின் மணம், பூவின் மணம், காலைக் காபியின் மணம் — நினைவில் கொள்ளுங்கள்: அப்படித்தான் அவன் உங்களுடன் இருக்கிறான். நட்சத்திரங்களைப் போல் தொலைவு, மூச்சைப் போல் அருகு.
