Thiruvasagam Explained (Bonus): Sivapuranam – Opening Lines 16-20

← Previous: Thiruvasagam Explained (Bonus): Sivapuranam – Opening Lines 11-15

This is a bonus post restoring the opening lines of the Sivapuranam (traditional lines 16–20) that were skipped in the numbered verse sequence.

Praise, praise! /

The potri cascade reaches its fullness — to the spotless one who stands in love, to the king who severs illusory birth, to our God of glorious Perundurai, to the mountain that grants unending bliss. And then the hinge: “Because Shiva stood within my mind —” The praise turns into testimony, and the hymn’s story begins.

The verse /

The meaning in plain words

“Praise the feet of the spotless one who stands in love! Praise the feet of the king who severs illusory birth! Praise the feet of our God of glorious Perundurai! Praise the mountain who grants unending bliss! Because Shiva stood within my mind —”

The last line is the hinge of the whole hymn. All the vazhga, velga, potri were not decoration — they were the ground for this “because.” Because He stood within my mind, therefore I praise. Experience first, expression after. The saint does not praise to earn the presence; he praises because the presence has already come.

To carry with you / உடன் எடுத்துச் செல்ல

Praise is not the price of presence. It is the echo of it.
