← Previous: Thiruvasagam Explained #7: Sivapuranam – Verse 7
The hut with nine doors / ஒன்பது வாயில் குடிலை
The sentence that began in verse 7 now unfolds its full weight. The saint describes what the Lord saw when He looked at him: a soul wrapped in illusory darkness, tied by the twin ropes of virtue and sin, wearing skin over filth — a hut with nine oozing doors, where the five senses run their cons.

The meaning in plain words
“[Me, Lord —] covered by the concealing, illusory darkness, bound by the strong rope called virtue and sin, wrapped outside in skin, smeared all over with worm-like filth — a hut with nine oozing doors, where the five senses work their deceits to bewilder [me]…”
This is the saint’s unflinching self-portrait, and one of the most famous body-images in Tamil devotion: the body as a kudilai, a wretched hut — nine doors (the body’s openings) oozing impurity, five senses running scams inside. Note the rope is both virtue and sin: even good deeds bind, when done for reward. The sentence will complete in the next verse — with what the Lord did about it.
To carry with you / உடன் எடுத்துச் செல்ல
We polish the hut’s walls and forget what lives inside. Today, notice one “deceit of the senses” — and smile at how well the saint knew us.
குடிசையின் சுவர்களை மெருகேற்றி உள்ளே வாழ்வதை மறக்கிறோம். இன்று புலன்களின் ஒரு “வஞ்சனையை”க் கவனியுங்கள் — ஞானி நம்மை எவ்வளவு நன்றாக அறிந்திருந்தார் என்று புன்னகையுங்கள்.
