Thiruvasagam Explained #12: Sivapuranam – Verse 12

← Previous: Thiruvasagam Explained #11: Sivapuranam – Verse 11

All things, and not / யாவையும், அல்லையும்

The saint now reaches for the highest philosophy — and the most personal memory — in the same breath. He is all things and not; light and dense darkness; beginning, middle, end, and none of them. And then, suddenly intimate: the Father who drew me and took me as His own.

The meaning in plain words

“O loving one to Your lovers — who are all things, and also not! O light! O dense darkness! O unborn greatness! O first one — who are the end and the middle, and are not! O my father, the great lord who drew me and took me as His own — in the minds of those who grasp through sharpened true wisdom…”

Every line is a held contradiction — being and not-being in the same breath. This is the saint doing philosophy as devotion: God exceeds every category, including “exists” and “doesn’t exist.” Then the pivot that makes it worship instead of wordplay: eerththu — He drew me. The ungraspable One grasped the singer first. The sentence continues into the next verse.

To carry with you / உடன் எடுத்துச் செல்ல

You don’t have to resolve the contradictions. You only have to be drawn.
