Thiruvasagam Explained #10: Sivapuranam – Verse 10

Greater than a mother /

The confession turns to praise. Having told how the Lord came to one lower than a dog, the saint now pours out names for Him — each a facet: compassion greater than a mother’s, spotless light, honeyed nectar, the noble surgeon who severs the bonds of attachment.

The meaning in plain words

“O Reality of compassion greater than a mother’s! O spotless light, O blooming flower-flame! O radiant one, O honeyed nectar, O lord of Sivapuram! O noble one who severs the bonds of clinging and protects — having shown loving grace so that the deceit in my heart perishes…”

A mother’s love is the highest love the saint knows — and he says God’s exceeds it. Thaththuvan (Reality itself) keeps the praise philosophical even at its most emotional. And notice the surgery: he doesn’t ask for the heart’s deceit to be managed but severed (aruththu) — attachment cut like a bond, by one noble enough to do it without wounding.

To carry with you / உடன் எடுத்துச் செல்ல

Think of one clinging — a grudge, a worry, a habit. He doesn’t file it down; He severs it. Ask for the surgery, not the sedative.
