← Previous: Thiruvasagam Explained (Bonus): Sivapuranam – Opening Lines 6-10
This is a bonus post restoring the opening lines of the Sivapuranam (traditional lines 11–15) that were skipped in the numbered verse sequence.
Victory to the anklets! /
The “victory!” cascade continues — to the anklets of the distant one who is near to outsiders, to the king who rejoices in folded hands, to the glorious one who uplifts bowed heads. Then the tone shifts: from velga (victory) to potri (praise) — “Praise the feet of the Lord! Praise the feet of my father!”

The meaning in plain words
“Victory to the beautiful anklets of the distant one (who is near) to outsiders! Victory to the anklets of the king who rejoices within those who fold their hands! Victory to the anklet of the glorious one who uplifts those who bow their heads! Praise the feet of the Lord! Praise the feet of my father! Praise the feet of the radiant one! Praise Shiva’s red feet!”
“Distant to outsiders” — yet He rejoices in folded hands and uplifts bowed heads. Distance is not His nature; it is our position. The shift from velga to potri marks the heart moving from acclamation to intimacy: He is no longer just “the king” but “my father.”
To carry with you / உடன் எடுத்துச் செல்ல
Fold your hands — He rejoices in it. Bow your head — He will lift it.
